Sell Your Items Fast

Tuesday, September 20th, 2011

Picture 1

Many skating items sell quickly on MySkatingMall.com, putting money instantly into the pocket of the sellers.  Don’t we all want this for our items?  This article contains tips for giving your items the best chance to sell quickly.

Assuming the items are of good quality, why don’t some attract any interest? Simply because there is not a buyer looking for that item at that price.   So are you out of luck?  No way!

Simply log into your MySkatingMall.com account and click on the “my active listings” link on the left hand side of the page.  Press the edit button to the right of the items that have had little interest from buyers and reduce the selling price.  Not only will this make more people interested, but it gets the items listed on the front page! The picture on this page is of the “Recent Listings” section of our front page.  Making an edit to any item gets that item listed in that section of our front page. About 130 people are finding their way MySkatingMall.com each day to look at our items.  Having your items priced attractively and visible on the front page of the website goes a long way to helping them sell fast.

Lastly, share the direct link to your listings with skating friends and on your social media accounts to give your items more visibility.  The direct link for your items is http://www.myskatingmall.com/your username. For example, if your username was Sk8er1 then your direct link is http://www.myskatingmall.com/sk8er1.

P.S.  Make sure to renew your items when you receive our “Your items are about to expire” email.  This gets sent out two weeks before items get removed from the site.  Letting items expire will guarantee you won’t earn any money! A nominal cost of $1 will give you the opportunity to make much more than that when your item sells.

Double the money for your Skate Swaps!!!

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011

1491figure_skatesA Skate Swap is a popular fundraiser where clubs or teams set a time and place where their members can sell skating items they are no longer using to other members. Usually, the club or team keeps a portion of each sale.

How would your figure skating club or team like to continue making money after the day of your skate swap?  Here is the scoop on an easy way to do just that!

Step 1: When items are checked at your skate swap, ask the sellers if they would be interested in selling their items on MySkatingMall.com if their items don’t sell during the skate swap. Collect $1 from those who are interested.  This $1 will be used for the listing fee or returned if their item sells during the skate swap.

Step 2:  Find a club or team member who is handy with a digital camera and shopping on the internet.  Many clubs have service hours that members are required to fulfill each year. This person can earn her volunteer hours by taking home items that did not sell during the skate swap and listing them on MySkatingMall.com. When the items sell, this person would need to ship them out promptly to the buyer.

Send us an email at info@myskatingmall.com if you would like us to help you with raising more money from your Skate Swaps. We would be delighted to help.

    Synchronized Skating Team Success Story

    Sunday, May 22nd, 2011

    TeamReglectiosNationals2010silverMedal2Team Reflections of central Pennsylvania had a problem on their hands: After several competitive seasons, they had roughly 15 copies of nine different beautiful dresses and nowhere to sell them.  Luckily, the team found the Synchronized Skating Team Dresses category on MySkatingMall.com and listed their dresses for sale. In the last eight months, 16 dresses have sold. Two at a price of $100 and 14 at $40 each!

    “We get to make money for our club (Central Pennsylvania FSC) and others can also select the club as their charity,” wrote Colleen Haley, who handles the team’s listings on MySkatingMall.com. “You have been very helpful and have always been there to help either by email or phone.”

    Every synchronized skating team is eligible to list team dresses for sale on MySkatingMall.com. Just imagine what it would be like if many teams created listings of their available dresses.  An amazing selection of dresses would be provided that would save buying teams hundreds of dollars over making dresses from scratch while at the same time earning money to fund the selling team’s endeavors.  Please tell the synchronized skating teams that you know of this great opportunity!

    Here are the details of how to sell synchronized skating dresses on MySkatingMall.com:

    1) An individual needs to register on MySkatingMall.com and create the dress listings. We recommend that the team creates a PayPal account that this individual can use in her/his MySkatingMall account so that the sale proceeds flow directly to the team. The team as an entity can not list the dresses due to legal reasons. An individual needs to be responsible for shipping the dresses and handling any payment concerns.

    2) That same individual can also register the team to receive the charity portion of each sale on MySkatingMall.com. 5% of every purchase on MySkatingMall.com gets split between the skating club or team of the buyer and seller. To register, simply go through the registration process again but choose the “Club or Team Registration” button rather than the “Individual User Registration” button. A different email address from the one used for the individual registration will need to be used for the team registration. The same PayPal account can be used for the individual and team registrations. It usually takes 7-10 days for us to get the new team up on the site.

    3) Create the skating dress listings and include as much detail as possible. There is a $1 per year listing fee. If you have 20 dresses to sell, it is still $1. Check out our FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) for more information on how MySkatingMall.com works. Put the price per dress in the price box when creating the listing even if you have many dresses for sale. Choose a shipping cost for the listing even if it is not totally accurate since you can change it later. In the description box, you may want to include text such as “Final price and shipping costs are determined by the amount of dresses purchased. Contact us before purchasing.”

    Look to other listings in the Synchronized Skating Team Dresses category for examples.  Once an agreement has been made between you and the buyer, you will need to log into your MySkatingMall.com account, click on “my active listings” and choose to edit the listing in question. At that time you will put the total purchase and shipping prices in the listing and let the buyer know they can go to MySkatingMall.com and purchase the dresses.

    If you have remaining copies of the dresses after the sale, you will need to renew the listing to put it back up on the site. We apologize for this inconvenience but this is due to limitations in our current software. We anticipate that this problem will be fixed in the next six months.

    We are here to answer any questions and help you along the way!  Email us at info@myskatingmall.com or call us at 719-210-5517.

    Help Close The Loop Hole

    Monday, February 7th, 2011

    Picture 1

    It has been such a pleasure over the last 11 months being involved with MySkatingMall.com as we have raised over $1,600 for figure skating clubs, teams, and charities!

    We are having one reoccurring problem that we need your help to fix. Since PayPal is new to many people, quite often there has been trouble completing payment at the time of purchase.  When the buyer or seller does not know how to “fix” their PayPal account issues, they often are completing payment outside of the MySkatingMall.com system. This denies the site and charities the commissions due on the sale.

    This fact is not widely known and and we are sure no one is doing it on purpose. It is not like the buyer is saving any money; all that is happening is that 10% of the sale price is not being shared by MySkatingMall.com and the skating groups of the buyer and seller.

    This is our simple plea: If you have bought an item and for whatever reason payment was not completed immediately after purchase, do not “Send Money” directly to the seller or pay a “Money request” from the seller through PayPal. If you are a seller, please do not send a “Money request” directly to the buyer or suggest the buyer pay you directly.

    So how do you complete the transaction?  Follow these steps:

    1) Log into your MySkatingMall.com account.
    2)Click on the “my purchases” link located at the bottom left portion of the page. You may need to scroll down your screen in order to see it.
    3) The item(s) you have purchased will then be listed in the middle of the screen. Click on the yellow PayPal button next to the title of each item to complete payment through PayPal.
    4)Complete all of PayPal’s steps until you reach the “Your payment has been sent” screen.

    Our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) tab at the top of the MySkatingMall.com homepage also includes directions to solve common PayPal problems. If these resources do not fix your problem, we are happy to assist you when you send  an email to admin@myskatingmall.com.

    P.S. Great News!!! MySkatingMall.com has reached a major milestone. There are now over 3,000 figure skating dresses, boots, blades, accessories and more listed for sale.

    P.S.S. Reminder: Our $1 per item per year listing fee begins next month.  Even though this is more than the free listings over the last year, it is much less than the $.50 monthly fee that eBay is currently charging.

    Rachael Flatt Donates Dresses to Support the U.S. Figure Skating Memorial Fund

    Friday, January 7th, 2011

    Rachel Flatt picture

    2010 U.S. National Champion Rachael Flatt has just donated four of her skating dresses to be  sold on MySkatingMall.com.  The proceeds from the sale of each dress will be given to the U.S. Figure Skating Memorial Fund.  The Fund has been providing training and academic grants for competitive figure skaters since 1961.

    “The Memorial Fund has been amazingly supportive throughout my skating career-something of which I am incredibly appreciative. I felt that donating my dresses and having the proceeds go back to the Memorial Fund was a simple way to give back to an organization that has given me so much over many years!,” explained Rachael.

    Wow! That’s the way all athletes should be, don’t you agree? Rachael’s donated dresses include her 2008 “Moon River” Short Program dress that she wore at the Cup of Russia Grand Prix Event as well as many exhibitions.  Three of her practice dresses were also included, all of which are stylish enough to be competition dresses themselves!  You can check them out and purchase them through this link: Rachael’s Skating Dresses  You could also type “Rachael Flatt” into the search box near the top of the page at MySkatingMall.com if the link is not working.

    Rachael is the second Team USA member who has donated items to raise money for the U.S. Figure Skating Memorial Fund. Several of Adam Rippon’s outfits are also available through this link: Adam’s Outfits

    “So many Team USA athletes have directly benefited from U.S. Figure Skating’s Memorial Fund,” said Julie Schmitz, Special Projects Manager for U.S. Figure Skating. “Whether it is wearing a RISE t-shirt at the rink, selling costumes on MySkatingMall.com with proceeds going to the Memorial Fund, or using their social media platforms to promote the event, our Team USA athletes have embraced the promotion of RISE with the same passion they put into their skating on a daily basis.”

    Along with Team USA members, MySkatingMall.com is still pursuing its goal of raising at least $1,000 for the Memorial Fund by the release of the film RISE in February.  So far, we are at about $250. Take a look at these great outfits through the links above, get amazing skating items for a fraction of what they cost new, and support a great charity!

    P.S.   We made a mistake!

    The “What’s so great about figure skating?” Contest has been extended until January 31st due to a problem with the video uploading instructions.  Clear directions and information about this $100 contest can be found at: http://www.myskatingmall.com/skating.  We are very sorry for the confusion!  Please take a few minutes to share with the world what you love about figure skating:-)

    Adam Rippon Donates Outfits for the Memorial Fund

    Sunday, November 14th, 2010

    RipponFour Continents Champion and two-time World Junior Champion Adam Rippon has once again demonstrated his class by donating four of his Junior and Novice outfits in order to raise money for the U.S. Memorial Fund. His outfits can be viewed through this link: Adam Rippon on MySkatingMall.com.

    Adam’s mom, Kelly, included a short note with the skating outfits: “Thank you, and best of luck with this worthy endeavor”.What worthy endeavor would that be???

    MySkatingMall.com has set a goal to raise $1,000 for the U.S. Memorial fund by February 17, 2011.  This date corresponds with the national release of U.S. Figure Skating’s documentary RISE. The film will celebrate American figure skating while commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 1961 U.S. World Figure Skating Team that perished in a plane crash on its way to the World Championships in Prague.

    The mission of MySkatingMall.com is to support the skating community. We would like to challenge other skaters to follow Adam’s lead by selling their gently used skating dresses, skating outfits, and skating practice apparel on MySkatingMall.com.  You don’t have to be an elite skater to participate! Simply list your items and choose for 87.5% of the sale price to be given to the U.S. Memorial Fund.

    Canadian skaters, don’t feel left out! Remember, you have the option to donate directly to the Skate Canada Athlete’s Fund when listing items:-)

    How MySkatingMall.com Helps You Support Grassroots Skating

    Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010

    Grassroots

    MySkatingMall.com was created to help meet pressing needs that have developed in the skating community. For example, a large number of skating families are struggling in this economy to keep up with the expense of skating. Clubs and teams are having difficulty raising enough funds to support their members. Also, there previously was no central place customized to figure skating to buy and sell high quality skating items that are no longer in use.

     A founding principle of MySkatingMall.com is that a minimum of 5% of every purchase will be given to grassroots skating groups. That is half of all the commissions collected!

     When an item is being listed on MySkatingMall.com, the seller can choose for 2.5% to 92.5% of the sale price to be automatically forwarded to the PayPal account of her/his club, team, or favorite skating charity upon the sale of the item. (2.5% also goes to the club or team of the buyer.) For example, if a club can get five of its members to list $50 skating dresses and choose for 90% of the proceeds to go to the club, then the club will have $225 in its PayPal account when all 5 of those dresses sell!

     Following the Money Trail

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    It is common wisdom that following where the money goes tells the true story about an organization. That is why we created two flowcharts that describe exactly how money gets distributed when purchases occur on MySkatingMall.com.  One chart is for Used Purchases and the second is for Partner Store Purchases. Please click on this link to see these charts and learn what makes MySkatingMall.com unique among all other skating sites:
    How It Works
    In addition to these automatic donations, 5% of every purchase you make from our Partner Stores (their logos are at the bottom of the MySkatingMall.com homepage), will be given to your club, team, or charity.
    Club and Team Registration
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Registration is fast and free at http://www.myskatingmall.com/clubs for all skating clubs, synchro teams, and theatre on ice teams who want to raise funds through MySkatingMall.com. Any group from around the world is eligible as long as it can be verified. It does not cost even one cent for groups to register! All groups will need to register before they can receive the 2.5%-92.5% funding from the transactions of their members. More details are available through our Club/Team FAQs.

    Please tell your club and team about this great opportunity!
